About Dr Myvanwy McIlveen​

Dr Myvanwy McIlveen is unique in being the only female college certified IVF Fertility Specialist outside the Sydney metropolitan area in NSW.

Myvanwy is Newcastle born and bred, growing up at Lake Macquarie before doing her degree at Newcastle University (Honours) and her Obstetrics and Gynaecology training at the John Hunter Hospital. She spent four years training in Sydney and at the University of Sheffield in England in infertility and IVF, completing both her subspecialist qualifications (CREI) and Master of Human Reproduction & Genetics. In 2005, she returned to her hometown of Newcastle as a specialist working with Genea. She is the Medical Director of Genea Newcastle & the Chairperson of the Genea Medical Advisory Committee.

An active member of the Fertility Society of Australia, American Society of Reproductive Medicine & the European Society for Human Reproduction & Embryology Myvanwy is also an examiner for the Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Her Masters research topic was in AMH and ovarian reserve (egg number) testing & optimising the embryo transfer technique using different catheters. Her areas of interest include PCOS, pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, ovulation disorders (irregular periods), difficult IVF cases (recurrent IVF failures), ovarian failure and insufficiency, male factor infertility and unexplained infertility.

All couples are different and deserve individualised care. Myvanwy understands that you want a personalised approach to your problem. That is why she provides assistance ranging from simple advice and information on the best ways to naturally get pregnant, to the most modern and scientifically advanced treatments. She will consider your medical history, test results, and desired family size to provide advice specifically suited to your circumstances. 

Myvanwy welcomes patients from Newcastle, the Hunter, Lake Macquarie, Gosford, Central Coast, Taree, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbor, Tamworth, Armidale, Northern NSW and beyond. For remote patients she uses Facetime (Medicare rebate-able) or Skype. For local patients who cannot attend the practice in person, she also offers telehealth consultations. Myvanwy understands the process of investigation and treatment can be stressful and that sometimes you need reassurance – emailing and phoning her directly is also welcome & encouraged.

Outside of work Myvanwy is married to her childhood sweetheart with a teenage son. She loves bushwalking, sailing, bouldering, tennis, skiing, trivia night and is addicted to F45. Her happy place is on the lounge, reading and being smothered by Bob & Ferris, her cats.

Dr McIlveen runs a busy IVF practice in conjunction with Genea Newcastle. Her clinic consistently has one of the highest IVF success rates as independently verified by the government website Yourivfsuccess.com.au.

As Genea Newcastle’s Medical Director, she loves helping couples work towards achieving their family in a way that they feel comfortable with. She offers honest, realistic advice on the choices available and helps people to decide what path they would like to take to parenthood.
