A Year in Review — From Dr Peta Skilbeck, Clinical Director, Intuition Private
As 2025 draws to a close, I’ve found myself reflecting on what has been one of the most challenging and transformative years in Intuition Private’s history.
This year, we’ve continued to grow as a trusted home for women’s and children’s health on the Central Coast. We welcomed three exceptional paediatricians: Dr Shriniwas Chinta, Dr Umesh Mishra, and most recently Dr Ahmed Khan, strengthening local access to vital paediatric services. Their arrival has helped position Intuition Private as a true haven for families, with expertise spanning obstetrics, gynaecology, women’s imaging, fertility, and paediatrics.
Of course, the defining moment of 2025 was the closure of Gosford Private Hospital’s maternity unit. The loss of such an important service was deeply felt, by mothers, families, and our own team. I advocated as strongly as I could for our patients and community, speaking on national television and radio, meeting with local MPs, and representing our region at the Women’s Health Forum hosted by The Hon. Dr Gordon Reid. Despite our collective efforts, the closure was a difficult reality. Those final days of private maternity care were emotional, but the photos and stories shared by our patients reminded me just how meaningful that chapter was for so many.
Amid the challenges came moments of immense pride. My participation in Stars of the Central Coast for Cancer Council NSW was a highlight of the year, not just for the dancing (though I found a new passion there!), but for the community spirit and generosity that saw us collectively raise over $202,000 for locals living with cancer.
Professionally, this year also brought validation from the research world. Groundbreaking data published by Professor Emily Callander confirmed what many of us have long known: continuity of care — seeing the same clinician throughout your pregnancy, is the gold standard for safety and wellbeing. At Intuition Private, we remain steadfast in our belief that it’s not about where you birth, but who you’re with.
Finally, I want to thank our incredible team, and especially our Business Manager, Karina Wright, whose leadership, grace, and calm have guided us through an extraordinary period of change.
To our patients, thank you for your continued trust and support. To our staff, I hope you take a well-earned break and reflect on the impact you’ve made in an unforgettable year.
And as we look ahead to 2026, we’re excited to mark a major milestone… 10 years of Intuition Private! We can’t wait to celebrate this special occasion with our patients, colleagues, and community who have supported us through every step. Stay tuned for updates, the best is yet to come.
Warmly,
Dr Peta Skilbeck
