Dr Peta Skilbeck Discusses Gosford Private Hospital Maternity Unit Closure on ABC Radio Sydney
This morning, Dr Peta Skilbeck, Clinical Director of Intuition Private, joined Hamish McDonald on ABC Radio Sydneyto discuss the closure of Gosford Private Hospital’s maternity unit and the significant impact this will have on expectant mothers on the Central Coast.
Dr Skilbeck highlighted the critical loss of birthing options for local families and the increasing strain this closure places on Gosford Hospital’s public maternity services. She explained that while Intuition Private remains committed to providing high-quality care, the closure means fewer choices for mothers seeking private obstetric care, placing added pressure on an already stretched public system.
“Women on the Central Coast deserve options when it comes to their maternity care,” Dr Skilbeck stated. “This closure removes an important choice for families and puts greater demand on Gosford Hospital, which is already managing high birth rates.”
She also addressed the need for urgent stakeholder engagement, calling for NSW Health and local decision-makers to ensure the voices of private obstetricians, midwives, and expectant mothers are heard as they develop long-term maternity care solutions for the region.
