As a partner, the joy of holding a new life in your hands is spectacular, however the pregnancy journey can often be overwhelming. Here are a few things you can do to help at each stage of the pregnancy.
The Journey
Being pregnant is a uniquely special time for you and your partner. Choosing the right Obstetrician is an important and personal decision for most.
It is important for you as the partner to be actively involved in the progress and birth of you and your partners baby.
The best care for you and your baby is our mission.

The First Trimester
Things ARE CHANGING
- Come along to appointments, meet Dr Skilbeck and ask your questions first hand
- Your partner will be very tired and may not be able to keep pace with routine tasks, lend a helping hand!
- Hormones start to kick in, listen and be as empathetic as you can
The Second Trimester
YOU CAN FEEL YOUR BABY MOVE
- Support your partner to have a good diet and regular exercise
- Spend time together, before the baby arrives. Perhaps a “babymoon”?
- Look into parental leave, if you can prepare to take some time out when the baby arrives
The Third Trimester
ACTION STATIONS
- Attend antenatal classes and go on a hospital tour
- Get the baby’s sleep area ready
- Plan and talk about your role in the delivery suite. You and your partner decide what you want to be involved in whether it's cutting the cord or waiting in the waiting room.
The Birth
YOUR BEAUTIFUL BABY HAS ARRIVED!
- Take the opportunity while in the hospital to learn how to bath, feed and change nappies
- Try to give your partner opportunities to sleep, go for a walk in the pram, have baby cuddle time
- Have food prepared/frozen/healthy takeaway for the first week at home
- Take lots of photos
- If you feel you need some emotional support, call Dr Skilbeck or your GP
