what to expect

  • As soon as your pregnancy is confirmed, Dr Skilbeck recommends phoning reception/going online to request an appointment because she can only accept a certain quota of bookings per month.
  • The initial visit is a longer appointment (approx. 45 minutes) in order to gain all relevant medical history, allow a focused examination and discussion about any specific questions you may have for your pregnancy.
  • From there, she will usually see you monthly until 28 weeks, then fortnightly until 36 weeks and weekly until you give birth. Some women require more frequent care and others are more relaxed – remember, it is an individualised situation.
  • Throughout the visits the priority is the health of you and your baby. However, opportunities are also available for you to individualise your Birth Plan. Dr Skilbeck will discuss with you referrals to individual alternative health care providers (eg Dietician, Physiotherapist, Reflexologists, Pregnancy massage, Calmbirthing practitioner). A referral process to other medical practitioners is also available dependent on when the need arises.
  • Dr Skilbeck aims to have you into your appointment on time, however understandably, her priority is to be at your birth, so there are times when a delay in appointments is unavoidable. Currently, she offers care at North Gosford Private Hospital.
  • Sometimes additional tests are required. Antenatal bloods may have been done prior to becoming an Intuition patient with your GP, but if not, these are required at the first visit.
  • Formal ultrasounds are offered at 11-13 weeks for a first trimester screen and then a morphology ultrasound at 18-20 weeks. Some women require additional scans to these.
  • Once booked in, feel free to call the surgery during office hours regarding any issues that arise (e.g. pain/bleeding). For emergencies and after-hours, any concerns are addressed via the Gosford Private Delivery Suite in the first instance.
